Late September 2022 and the rain came down in Sydney,, luckily we had other plans. We headed to the seaside village of Minori, an incredible stretch of the Amalfi coast line in southern Italy. We were there for a wedding where everyone stayed in Minori, and the wedding was in Ravello. The accommodation is limited with it being a small, less prosperous cousin to the others so we chose an AirBNB. It was great, plenty of room, amazing views and a deck to die for, plus the location was bang in the middle of Via Capo di Piazza. There’s no more central than that.
The morning after we arrived in Minori we headed to the Cafe Europa in Piazza Umberto. We ordered croissants and expresso, and much to the shock of our waitress, our daughter ordered a margherita pizza! She had it nearly every morning we were there, much to the amusement of everyone in the end!
Vincenzo and the team from AMALFIVACATION.IT were sensational, talking to the driver from the airport (we flew into Rome), giving directions, meeting us and arranging a host of activities. The highlight was our lunch at the beautiful AL MARE restaurant.
It had views to die for, food that was impeccable and amazing service. My lobster was superb, fresh and succulent, the octopus (a region specialty) lived up to the hype and the fish so fresh it melted in your mouth. The waiter went above and beyond, recognizing Kerry’s delight in olive oil we did a full ‘tasting’. Just magic. Vincenzo also arranged a boat trip for us to Capri. Super short notice but he came up with the goods inclulding visiting the grotto’s and organising an impromptu water access only lunch at Capri. It’s an trip I’d recommend to anyone with magnificent scenery, the water was a stunning blue and, even in October, warm to swim in. The boat trip ended with us swimming through sea tunnels and exploring a secret grotto – not for the faint hearted but an absolute stunning experience.
The Lemon Walk is well worth doing. The steps going up are a challenge but the view is incredible, and the path is quaint and well worn. We started in Minori and finished in Maioiri, a village staggered on the side of the cliff face. If you go this way a visit to the collegiate church of Santa Maria a Mare is well worth it. A young guy was cleaning and opened up the crypt and let us in through the old iron gates. On display was the relics of St. Clement, a Roman martyr.
